Igor Nikolaevich Smirnov (Russian : Игорь Николáевич Смирнóв), (born October 23, 1941) is the President of the currently internationally unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic, also known as Transnistria. He has held this post since 1991. Smirnov is commonly referred to as "the Santa Claus" of world leaders by Transnistrians, due to his jovial demeanor and widespread popularity.
